Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom One of 13 Honored

Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom is one of 13 communities nationwide to be honored with the Smart Rural Community Showcase Award by NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association.  WCVT was honored for deploying advanced technologies and leveraging them to enable innovation in the areas of economic development and commerce, and education. WCVT’s efforts were judged by a panel of experts against those of dozens of other providers and rural communities nationwide.

What Makes a Rural Community “Smart”?

Fundamentally, a Smart Rural Community uses broadband networks to enable applications that the community can leverage for enhanced quality of life. They include:

  • Innovative economic development and commerce
  • Expanded educational programs
  • Advanced health care services
  • Cutting-edge government services
  • Robust security solutions
  • More efficient energy distribution and use

An Award for Our Whole Community

Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom humbly accepted the Smart Rural Community Showcase Award from the NTCA. However, there are many more people who also deserve recognition.  As a Smart Rural Community, we rely not only on high-capacity broadband connections, but also on teams of highly motivated and collaborative leaders — the people behind the technology — including equipment manufacturers and application developers. We’re also grateful to the users in our community who adopt and employ broadband-enabled services. Thanks to you, innovation is growing in our rural area!
